RUSSIA IN FINLAND: A Special Edition of The Posthorn
A Special Edition of The Posthorn is now for sale to interested collectors from the Scandinavian Collectors Club (SCC). This special edition is a 56-page handbook telling the interesting story behind the use of Russian currency stamps in Finland.
The title of the handbook or special edition is Russia in Finland, and was written by Roger P. Quinby and Dirk Vorwerck. Mr. Quinby knows the subject well, as he took a NORWEX 97 Large Vermeil for his exceptional exhibit of Russian Stamps and Postal Stationery used in Finland, 1891-1918. The exhibit has also received gold medals at Moscow 97, Milan 98 and IBRA 99.
The full story behind the use of Russian currency stamps in Finland has not been told to the English speaking postal history community. So the authors' primary goal is to acquaint readers with the Russian Ring and Russian ringless stamps used in Finland, plus stamps and postal stationery not sold by the Finnish Post. They also cover various optional and mandatory usages of Russian franking, the Finnish response to the Russification of the Finnish Post, and the variety of mixed franking possibilities on domestic and international mail in this profusely illustrated handbook.
The authors cover their subject using ten chapters, fifty-eight (58) figures, and four tables including one on Kopeck Postal Rates in Finland from 1891 to 1917. Their coverage is thorough and complete as they also include an annotated Bibliography and list of references collectors may be interested in checking further.
A copy of this publication is available for $5.00 to US and Canadian addresses, and $7.00 postpaid to overseas from SCC Executive Secretary: Don Brent
