International Grand Prix Collection Norway, Bernt Fossum, 8½ by 12 inches, 136 pages, sewn, hardbound, English text, F. C. Moldenhauer, Bergen, Norway 2003. 585 NOK (approximately $90) postpaid from Frimerkehuset AS, Box 258 Sentrum, 5804 Bergen, Norway.

This superbly illustrated book, in glorious color, gives collectors the opportunity to see this magnificent exhibit and collection of the first two postal issues of Norway. Bernt Fossum's exhibit won several large gold medals as well as the Grand Prix Nordique at NORDIA 1999 and the Grand Prix d'Honneur at HAFNIA 2001.

Norway No. 1 is seen in essays, a first day cover, the only recorded unused block of four, multiples on and off cover with various cancellations, and the known varieties. The cancellation studies on stamps are in depth. The ship cancels on cover are magnificent, not only for Norway No. 1 but also the second issue, the King Oscar I issues of 1856-1857.

Each value of the second issue is represented in multiples, with various cancels, and on cover. The only recorded cover bearing a bisected 4-skilling stamp is shown. Foreign destinations with these stamps are also seen. The quality of the material throughout is exemplary. It is such a treasure to see these items all together before they were sold at auction by Moldenhauer.
